That’s what director Sriganesh wants to bring out in his film Kaanchaana. Starring Diganth and Ragini Dwivedi in the lead, Kaanchaana originated from a one-line story that Sriganesh had narrated to his friend Diganth. “I always wanted to direct a movie and used to come up with one-line stories. I have worked with Diganth in many ad films and when I met him one day, I told him about Kaanchaana. He immediately loved it and encouraged me to go ahead with the script,” says Sriganesh, who completed the talkie portion of the film in 25 days.

Citing the example of ‘Delhi Belly’, Sriganesh says that his film is just a subtle version of that movie. “The subject is very similar but it is definitely not a remake of ‘Delhi Belly’. I had completed Kaanchaana much before ‘Delhi Belly’. So, there is no way it can be a remake,” he adds.

Keeping Diganth’s on-screen image in mind, Sriganesh says that Diganth’s fans need not be disappointed. “Generally Diganth is seen as a laid-back kind of a guy in his films and I have created the character keeping this image in mind. While Ragini is an asset to the plot, she is the force behind Diganth. Everytime, he falls in trouble, it is Ragini’s character who leads him in the right direction,” he adds.

Though the movie was completed by April-May this year, it never saw the light of day. Sriganesh says it’s because of the non-availability of theatres. “I have learnt while making Kaanchaana that it is very easy to make a film but the real challenge comes at the time of release. Getting theatres is a big struggle which is why the film was delayed for long. But now everything is settled and we are planning to release the film in the coming weeks,” he adds.

The next time Sriganesh plans to direct a film, he says he will keep in mind all the obstacles that he faced during his first venture.

“I am confident of the film and despite the delay, it will work with the audience. The next time, however, when I plan to direct, I will go the reverse way. I will set the release date first and then start my pre-production,” he states.
