“John Q” (English) precedes “Tathastu” (Hindi) which precedes “Sugreeva” (Kannada). Once the origins are established, it is time to examine the movie. A commentary upon today’s healthcare system and the ever-widening rich-poor gap, “Sugreeva” tugs upon the heartstrings, but lightly.

It is no mean feat for a film made in less than 18 hours. The team comprising ten directors, an equal number of crew have pulled off an incredibly plausible story. Shivarajkumar’s fine acting automatically lends an authentic touch, helping audience connect with ease.

The huge ensemble is also up to the task and the highlight of the film is the absence of melodrama though a bit song now and then sneaks in. “Sugreeva” has had some minor changes and luckily they all add up to the engrossing drama.

The film is more of actor Shivanna’s film than that of Hattrick Hero Shivarajkumar. Still, the dialogue writers can’t escape some cliches but all is forgiven in this race-to-the-finish fare.
