Mumbai: The rift within Maha Vikas Aghadi deepened further as the Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council Ambadas Danve on Thursday said that had Uddhav Thackeray been declared as the Chief Ministerial candidate, the outcome of the elections would have been different.
Danve’s statement comes a day after he said that Shiv Sena (UBT) was contemplating going alone in the forthcoming civic and local bodies polls - a statement that rattled the MVA allies Congress and Sharad Pawar-headed NCP (SP).
“After the Lok Sabha polls, Congress appeared to be over confident, there was a situation where Congress could have won Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana and Maharashtra. There were at least 10 chief ministerial aspirants within the Congress,” Danve told reporters.
“Had Uddhav Thackeray’s name been declared as the Chief Minister candidate of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, things would have been different. There would have been a two to five per cent swing in our favour,” said Danve.
Before the Vidhan Sabha polls, Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut were rooting for the declaration of name of the CM candidate. In fact, Thackeray even said that it may be from the Congress or the NCP (SP) and he would have no objection.
Now the results have rattled the three parties.
On the results and talks of going solo in civic and local bodies polls, Danve said, "Though winning or losing elections is normal in politics, what happened in the Assembly polls this time is totally unexpected and hence the party rank-and-file are putting forth their views to trudge alone.”
