Part of our culture to be kind as well as forgiving: PM Modi on Samvatsari

On the occasion of 'Samvatsari Parv', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said it is part of our culture to be kind, forgiving and not keep ill-feelings towards each other.

Samvatsari is the annual forgiveness day observed on the last day of Paryushana by the Shwetambar sect of Jainism.

"Forgiveness signifies large heartedness. It is a part of our culture to be kind as well as forgiving, and not keep ill-feelings towards each other. Michhami Dukkadam!" Modi tweeted.

He shared a small clip wherein he had spoken about Samvatsari during one of his earlier episodes of the monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’. - PTI.

Two held for objectionable posters against farmer leader Tikait

Police here arrested two people after posters announcing a “cash reward” of Rs 11 lakh for thrashing farmer leader Rakesh Tikait with shoes surfaced here, an official said on Friday. The posters were issued in the name of the Kisan Karz-Mukt Abhiyan Sangathan and appeared at a dozen places here on Thursday evening, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Kunwar Gyananjay Singh in a statement said that it was found that Luv Vikram Singh, a resident of the Huzurpur police station area, got about 50 posters printed at a printing press run by Aman Gupta.

Luv Vikram Singh, also called Jaynu Thakur, pasted the posters at different places of the city on Thursday, he said, adding that the two were arrested on Thursday night.

Police have removed the posters from all places.

“There is no law and order problem in the city and district regarding this,” the officer said. - PTI.

Sri Lanka extends Covid-19 lockdown till Sep 21

Sri Lanka on Friday extended the Covid-19 lockdown till September 21, the President’s office here said.

The decision to extend the lockdown was made during the Covid task force meeting chaired by President Gotabaya Rjapaksa.

The quarantine curfew will now be in force till 4am on September 21. It has been imposed since August 20.

“With numbers steadily declining, we are confident that Sri Lanka will once again be able to reopen without risk,” Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella tweeted.

Meanwhile, the health authorities said that over 10 million of the total 21 million population in the country have been vaccinated with both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said that 10,211,537 people have got both Covid-19 jabs as of Friday.

Sri Lanka’s death toll from the pandemic crossed the 10,800 mark on Thursday. The national tally of the Covid-19 cases stood at 477,636. The country has been reeling from the third wave of the coronavirus since April. - PTI.

Industrial production grows 11.5% in July

India's industrial production rose 11.5 per cent in July, according to official data released on Friday.

As per the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the manufacturing sector's output surged 10.5 per cent in July 2021. - PTI.

IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rainfall in 19 MP districts

The India Meteorological Department on Friday issued a yellow alert, indicating heavy rainfall, for 19 districts in Madhya Pradesh, an official said. The alert, for heavy rainfall in isolated places in Jabalpur, Sehore, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Rajgarh, Guna, Sheopur, Anuppur, Balaghat, Seoni, Dhar, Shivpuri and Morena districts, is valid till Saturday morning, PK Saha, senior meteorologist with IMD's Bhopal office told PTI.
