ANF team on high alert in district borders

Last Updated 11 March 2019, 17:46 IST

The Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) is on high alert on the borders of Kodagu district.

Following the exchange of bullets between the ANF personnel and Maoists at Wayanad at the border of Kodagu and Kerala last week, the ANF team continued the combing operation on Monday as well.

As there are possibilities of Maoists sneaking into the villagers adjacent to the border areas, the ANF and police teams have been patrolling the region constantly.

A vigil has been kept on the villages where Maoists entered earlier.

ANF IGP Soumendu Mukherjee visited the border areas of the district and monitored the combing operation. The IGP also visited Kutta police station.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that people need not be afraid. If the public comes across any information on Maoists, they are requested to inform the police.

As many as 11 polling booths in and around Kutta village are situated in the Maoist-hit regions. The ANF and police have kept an eye on these polling booths. Vehicles at Kutta, Perumbadi and Makutta interstate check-posts are being inspected. The security at the check-posts have been stepped-up, said Soumendu Mukherjee.

ANF staff are also on high alert in Naladi, Odumbe, Karike, Makutta, Sampaje and Birunani villages. Combing operations are being conducted in various places.
