<p>In a bid to bury the hatchet with its estranged ally Congress, DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi on Wednesday said his party was prepared to extend support to the national party, to form a secular government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha polls.<br /><br /></p>.<p> Kick-starting his campaign from the city, Karunanidhi, whose party had pulled out from the UPA-II in February last year over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, said the DMK was ready to support the Congress after the elections.<br /><br /> Making a U-turn after vehemently opposing an alliance with the Congress by terming it an ungrateful ally in the DMK General Council meet held in December last, Karunanidhi said, “let bygones be bygones”... though the Congress had been unfaithful to his party.<br /><br />“The Congress has been unfaithful. But we will forgive them,” the DMK chief said, after introducing, his party candidates to the voters.<br /><br />After nine years with the UPA, the DMK had pulled out of the Congress-led government and then snapped its alliance last year.<br /><br />It was a key constituent of the UPA-I government from 2004-2009, after continuing its alliance with Congress for the second term from 2009 when the 2G scam broke out.<br /><br />The DMK severed its ties with the Congress at the height of the 2G spectrum scam involving Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and former Union minister A Raja.<br /><br />Though the relations between the two parties strained, the Congress supported the candidature of Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi in the Rajya Sabha elections that enabled her to get elected to the Upper House for a second term.<br /><br />At that time, there were talks of reviving the Congress alliance but Karunanidhi ruled out any alliance.<br /></p>
