While the Delhi University has set up a monitoring committee to keep a tab on the admission process and ensure that the admissions go smoothly, many students are still being denied admissions.

“The monitoring committee was set up when the admission process started. For colleges which are refusing admissions to students despite making it through the cut-off list, the varsity maintains that the students have to be admitted,” said deputy dean of students’ welfare (DSW) Sangeet Ragi.

Although the panel members have been informing the varsity about the instances of colleges refusing admissions and the varsity is also sending communication to colleges flouting the university’s rule on admissions, many students are still not been admitted.
“Whatever complaints the DSW has got regarding colleges not admitting students, we are looking into it,” added Ragi.

Students who were not admitted in the second cut-off list are trying to get admission under the third cut-off list.

“The first experience of not getting admitted despite the required percentage has left me scared. It is a very confusing situation as the varsity is assuring that I will get admission in the college from where I was refused,” a student, who was denied admission to Shyam Lal College, said.

“However, now I have applied to another college under the third cut-off list. The entire admission process has been an ordeal. If I get through both the colleges, then the long process of refund will start. The third list has a few seats remaining, I don’t know if I will be admitted there too. I did not ask for all this,” the student said.

The university sources said regular meetings are being conducted to find a solution on over-admitting students.

“We understand parents anguish over being denied admissions. However, infrastructure is one of the biggest concerns to accommodate more students. There is a requirement to increase faculty strength also. All this being worked out,” an officer said.
