Over three-fourth of students aspiring to get admission in 54,000 undergraduate seats in Delhi University from this year’s academic session have applied online.

This year, DU has received a record number of 2.85 lakh applicants, nearly 10,000 more than last year.

According to dean of students welfare Malay Neerav, 2,25,049 students have registered online till 5 pm on Monday. Among the online applications received, 1,40,396 are from the general category, 55,216 from OBC, 23,915 from SC, 4,855 from ST and 674 from PWD.

The registration for the varsity’s 52 undergraduate courses closed at midnight on Monday.

The DU website opened for registration on May 28 and already close to one lakh more students have filled in forms online for admission. But many applicants still prefer to fill and submit forms in person.

“The eight admission information centres sold offline forms till 3 pm today. A total of 72,596 forms were sold this year and 59,586 students have submitted the forms,” said Neerav. On the last date of filling of admission form, DU sold 4,913 forms and received 8,149 forms.

Unlike last year, the 18 admission information centres, colleges designated for sale of offline forms, started the registration process a week after the varsity’s website opened for online registration. DU earlier sold both offline and online pre-registration forms for undergraduate courses on the same date.

The university followed a clear cut policy to promote online registration this year, a DU official said.

The registrations for admission to St Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College, which have separate admission process being minority institutions, also ended at midnight.

The centralised fitness tests for sports admission will be conducted from June 18 to June 20 at the DU polo ground. The tests will start from 9 am and the results will be uploaded on the DU website.

The aspirants will get a certificate, which will be valid for all the sports trials to be conducted by individual colleges. The first cut-off will be announced on June 25, which will be followed by six-seven similar lists. The candidates will have three days to take admission under each list.
