Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil and Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis have declared holidays for schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district on Wednesday.

As the region is likely to receive heavy rainfall, the holidays have been declared.

Both the deputy commissioners have urged the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts not to panic over heavy showers.

“The rainfall is part of normal monsoon. There is no cyclone in the region. The public need not panic. The district administrations have initiated measures in the artificial-flood affected areas,” they said in a statement.

In case of any rain damage or rain related problems faced by the public, the people can contact district control room 1077.

The fishermen have been advised not to venture into fishing. The district administrations have also urged the general public not to move close to the banks of river and shores of the sea, in the next 48 hours.
