<p>A senior IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre V S Singh was on Monday killed in a road accident. A speeding car hit him severely injuring him. He later succumbed to injuries at the SMS Hospital.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Singh, 57, was currently holding the post of additional chief secretary forest and environment. <br /><br />He is survived by his wife and two married daughters. He was returning after a morning walk at the Central Park when the accident took place.<br /><br />“He was crossing the road with two others at the Narayan Singh Circle when an Alto car hit them. They were rushed to SMS Hospital where Singh died,” police said.<br /><br />“The driver was arrested on the spot and the car has been seized,” he added. <br /><br />Deputy secretary in the commercial tax department Vijendra Singh also injured in the accident.<br /><br />SMS Hospital Superintendent Dr Virendra Singh said, “The officer was critically injured on his head and succumbed to injuries by about 10:35 am.” <br /><br />Following the news of the accident several politicians and bureaucrats rushed to the hospital. They included chief minister Ashok Gehlot, health minister A A Khan, former home minister Gulab Chand Kataria and chief secretary C K Mathew.<br /><br />Singh was an IAS officer of the 1978 batch and held several positions including collector of Jaipur. He had acquired the reputation of a fearless bureaucrat. <br />He was the home secretary during the Gujjar agitation. <br /><br />He was chairman of the State Pollution Control Board, principal secretary in several departments like forest, water resources, labour, sports and youth affairs in his long career.<br /><br /></p>
