Man shoots at pregnant wife for dancing

Her only fault was that she agreed to join other members of her family on dance floor on the occasion of ‘sagai’ (a ritual before wedding) knowing very little that it would put her and the life of her unborn child in serious danger.

In a shocking incident, a man shot at seriously wounded his pregnant wife allegedly for dancing at a family function on DJ (Disc Jockey) in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, about 350 kilometres from here.

According to the police sources here, the incident occurred at Malpura village in the district late on Thursday night. Sources said that the woman had gone to attend a pre-wedding ceremony at her parental home with her husband, who was said to be a police constable.

Her brothers and other relatives asked the woman to join them on the dance floor.
The woman initially refused but later relented after their insistence.

The hubby, who was not present, when his wife joined others in dancing on the DJ, flew into rage on seeing her at the dance floor, when he returned, sources said. Police said that the man, who carried a pistol, climbed on to the dance floor, pushed others down and opened fire at his wife.

The woman, who was hit in the stomach, fell on the floor bleeding profusely. She was rushed to a private hospital, where her condition was stated to be serious. 

It was not immediately clear if the injury had posed danger to the unborn child. The husband, however, managed to flee from the spot after the crime.

The woman’s brother said that the man did not like his wife mixing with others. “But we had no idea that he would shoot her,” he said.

Police said that a case had been registered and a hunt had been launched to nab the culprit. The police were also trying to ascertain if the culprit was a cop.
