Mentally challenged man shot dead near air force station in Kashmir

A mentally challenged man was shot dead by security forces near an air force station in Budgam district of central Kashmir after he tried to enter the high security area on Sunday night.

He crossed the security fence and came close to the station perimeter wall. Despite repeated warnings from the sentry, the individual did not stop.

The sentry fired some warning shots in air but it failed to deter the man. The sentry fired towards him, a police spokesperson said.

"Later on, station authorities informed police and spot examination revealed that the individual was about 50-55 years of age who, appeared to be mentally challenged and died in the incident. The man was barefoot, without any warm clothes and had no identity card," he said, adding that a case has been registered into the incident.
