In Kasturba Nagar constituency, the urban areas are likely to benefit the most from the project plans of the AAP MLA this time.

With the majority of last year’s budget being spent on installing water and sewer lines in the villages in the constituency, the focus will shift this time, said the newly elected MLA Madan Lal.

“I spent almost 75 per cent of the budget during the last tenure on the six villages which falls in the constituency. The living conditions have improved in these areas,” said Lal who defeated BJP’s Ravinder Choudhry by a margin of 15,896 votes.

The areas which will benefit the most are Lajpat Nagar IV, Pant Nagar, Defence Colony and South Extension.

“In Lajpat Nagar IV, Pant Nagar and South Extension, water and sewer problems continue. Resolving the problems in these areas will be on priority. The market in Defence Colony needs water lines and the area needs speedbreakers – a project which could not be completed,” the MLA said.

With overall cleanliness in the constituency high on the agenda, Lal said any slack in the Mucinicpal Corporation of Delhi’s standards in cleaning localities will be treated as “corruption”.

“It will be considered dereliction of duty if the corporation staff do not execute their responsibilities properly. It will be treated nothing less than corruption,” said Lal.

The constituency covers Kotla Mubarak, Garhi village, Pillanji village, Ali Ganj village, Sriniwaspuri, INA colony, Lodhi Road, Andrews Ganj and Sanwal Nagar, among other places.

“With people from across all economic backgrounds in my constituency, their expectations are bound to be very different. So the review process for this time’s success is still on. This will help me simultaneously carry out development work across colonies,” said Lal.

In the past three days, the MLA had spent time among residents of Garhi village and Kotla Mubarakpur to understand the challenges, he added.

For those residing in JJ clusters in Kasturba Nagar constituency, the MLA promises hygienic water and more toilet blocks till every family in the slum has a house.

Before taking up new projects, finishing the pending ones is on the priority. Several projects were left midway due to lack of funds, the AAP MLA said.

“This includes water and sewer lines. We have laid down the lines in several areas but work is still pending.”
