More than 1,000 stunt bikers fined in 17 days

After thousands of bikers flouting traffic norms who performed dangerous stunts and had dared the Delhi Police around India Gate during Shab-E-Barat, a Muslim festival, the department has started a special drive and started erecting temporary pickets and checking bikers. 

“Not only from the city, youngsters from the neighbouring states – UP and Haryana -- too visit India Gate and nearby areas and perform stunts. They create nuisance for the commuters,” said a senior police officer.

The officer said they can’t block every road leading to India Gate but can prevent such incidents by fining the culprits and by impounding the vehicles. Keeping this as their priority, the police officials from July 5 started the drive to fine the errant bikers who perform dangerous stunts. 

From Friday to Sunday every week, police erect temporary pickets and under supervision of senior police officers check the bikers.    

So far, Delhi Police have checked 8,570 bikes on weekends, seized 153 as the owners were unable to produced requisite papers of two-wheelers, including stolen bikes.

 The police have challaned 1,012 bikers and registered six cases of rioting and attacking on police personnel. The police have arrested 12 people since July 5 for rioting and driving stolen bikes. 

The bike-borne youths seen on roads cause threat of life to own and other commuters too. Driving throughout the night, they dare the cops who try to stop them.

The officer said any one goes against the law can’t be tolerated and they have to be fined.

“We can’t leave city roads to these lawless bikers,” added the officer.
