Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party activists were allegedly thrashed when they staged a demonstration outside Narela police station in west Delhi on Saturday.

The protest came after cops allegedly denied to lodge a case of rape with a four-year-old girl even after five days of the incident.

It was also alleged that police took the victim for medical examination after five days. However, following the demonstration, police lodged a case under section 376 (rape) and 511 (attempting to commit offenses punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused, who is on the run.

According to the victim’s family, the girl was raped by a 50-year-old neighbour at her home in Bawana JJ Colony on November 25. He was caught red handed, but managed to give the victim’s family a slip.

The victim’s family approached police, but cops allegedly refused to lodge an FIR. At this, angered family members staged a protest outside Narela police station who were allegedly beaten up by the cops. However, police lodged a case after Kejriwal and his supporters came to support the family.

One of AAP activists, however, alleged that they were beaten up by police with the butt of revolver and belts. “We were protesting peacefully, but police resorted to lathi-charge us. They forcefully took our workers inside the police station and thrashed them,” Kamla, an activist, alleged.

Another AAP activist, Kapil, alleged that he was beaten up with sticks and belts for taking part in the protest. A senior police officer, however, called it a fictitious account, and said they are looking after the matter and taking appropriate action.

“Disciplinary action would be taken against beat constables and the investigation officer if found guilty,” the official said.
