Tamil Nadu cop shot dead in Rajasthan by robbery suspects

A police inspector from Chennai was shot dead by robbers early morning on Wednesday in Jaitaran of Pali district in Rajasthan. The deceased has been identified as Periyapandi of Maduravoyal police station, Chennai. Whereas another inspector, Muni Sekar, who accompanied him suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Rajasthan.

Periyapandi was part of the special eight-member team to nab the suspects associated with the gold robbery in Rajamangalam, Chennai took place on November 16. The robbers had drilled a hole on the rooftop of a jewellery shop and escaped with around 3.5 kilograms gold and cash. The CCTV footage showed two persons carrying bags containing the loot.

"The police got information that the suspects were hiding in a deserted brick kiln. He along with his team were in a search operation to nab the suspects. They attacked police with the rods. Suspects snatched the revolver from his hand and shot him at the spot," a Circle Officer at Pali confirmed.

Two days ago, Periyapandi's team had nabbed four persons from a village in Pali district of Rajasthan, who allegedly helped their relative in the robbery. 

The suspects were identified as Chennaram, (28),  Ellaram, Shankar Lal and Dauram, natives of Pali district.
