'Threat to life' mars debate on sex CD

Last Updated 10 September 2016, 09:40 IST

Dramatic scenes were seen in the Delhi Assembly on Friday as a discussion on the sex CD involving sacked minister Sandeep Kumar led to an AAP MLA issuing a "threat to life” of the Leader of Opposition.

In another unprecedented development, Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra played an audio clip in Gujarati, allegedly linked to BJP chief Amit Shah and alleged snooping on a woman who was in touch with the then Gujarat chief minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mishra claimed BJP legislators could not take a high moral ground while slamming Sandeep Kumar as their own leaders were involved in wrongdoings against women.

Earlier, after initiating the discussion on the CD scandal, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta of the BJP mentioned a case of harassment of an AAP woman activist in Narela constituency that allegedly forced her to commit suicide.

His remarks enraged Narela legislator Sharad Chauhan, one of the accused in the abetment of suicide case related to the woman. Chauhan threatened he would “cut Gupta into pieces”.

Gupta objected to Chauhan’s threat and sought intervention from Speaker Ram Niwas Goel but his voice was drowned in shouting from the treasury benches.

Soon after that, Gupta and Jagdish Pradhan, the only other BJP MLA in the House, walked out in protest, alleging that Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also supported Chauhan.
Gupta later called the police control room and wrote a letter to the area SHO and the Speaker seeking registration of an FIR against Chauhan.

During the discussion on the sex CD case, Gupta earlier questioned the morality of AAP minister Sandeep Kumar and also slammed an AAP leader who, in his blog justified the sacked minister’s acts – now captured on camera.

“The blog says virginity is not a virtue anymore and tries to compare Sandeep Kumar’s misdemeanours with alleged incidents in the life of Mahatma Gandhi,” said Gupta.

“I want to ask Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP if the leader who wrote the blog has been questioned by the party. Has the blog been withdrawn or  is there any reaction from the party,” said Gupta.

After the BJP legislators left the House, Water Minister Kapil Mishra, who recently returned after campaigning in Gujarat,  played an audio clip on his phone to support his claim that the BJP leaders like Amit Shah was also involved in harassment of women.

Without naming Modi, Mishra alleged that the BJP had no moral right to point an accusing finger towards the AAP over Kumar’s sex CD as its own leaders were in  neck deep mess..
He played on his smart phone at least four audio clips in Gujarati and claimed that in the clips Shah was purportedly directing officials to record phone calls and put surveillance on a woman who was closely in touch with Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
“I want to bring these audio clips on the record of the Assembly,” said Mishra.

He also read excerpts of an affidavit filed by a bureaucrat from Gujarat in the Supreme Court in connection with the case of the woman’s alleged illegal snooping by the Gujarat government.

Mishra also referred to several BJP leaders, including Rajasthan MP Nihal Chand Meghwal who is facing rape charges, allegedly involved in cases of sex, sleaze and exploitation of women.

Sisodia concluded the discussion by alleging that the BJP leader in the House did not have the guts to listen to the charges of wrongdoing against their own leaders.
