<p>Flood threat loomed large over Uttar Pradesh, especially in the flood-prone eastern districts, as major rivers have started rising following incessant rains for the past several days.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Almost all the major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Gahghra, Rapti, Sharda and Ramganga were rising along their course in the state and have already inundated the low-lying areas, said official sources on Tuesday.<br /><br />While the Ganga is rising in Raebareli, Varanasi, Ballia and Ghazipur, the river Rapti is maintaining a rising trend in Baharaich, Shravasti, Balrampur and Siddharth Nagar, they added.<br /><br />The rivers are however still flowing below the danger mark, sources said.<br /><br />Flood alert has been sounded in several districts and the administration has been asked to take precautionary measures. “Directives have been issued to fill the breaches in the river embankments,” the sources said. The situation in Baharaich is alarming as the Rapti has flooded low-lying areas and washed away a small dam. The state has been experiencing incessant rains for the past five days after the monsoon revived.<br /><br />Almost all parts of the state received good rains giving much respite to people from sweltering heat and rekindled hopes of a good crop. The meteorological department has predicted widespread rains in the next 48 hours across the state.</p>
