Hard work and self-confidence helped Dina Rodrigues to attain self-reliance in spite of her physical disability and is a model for women in society.

Disability did not hinder her from achieving success and she has been engaged in making artificial jewellery to earn a living.

Dina’s legs were affected by polio during her childhood. In spite of the hurdles, she passed the PU exam but had to discontinue her studies after the death of her father Thomas. Hoping for a government job under the physical handicap quota, she ran from pillar to post. However, she was disappointed at every stage.

To attain self-reliance and to lead a dignified life, she started making artificial jewellery along with her mother.

From a hobby

Initially, she started preparing artificial jewellery as a hobby but later converted it into a profession for the sake of her livelihood.

She has been preparing chains for kids, earrings, decorative bangles and chains, necklaces and so on.

She has customers from every nook and corner of the state. Her artworks are also available online. Those who purchase her jewellery through social media receive them through courier.

Demand

Even merchants purchase artificial jewellery from her and sell it during the village fair.

Dina prepares designer bangles as preferred by her customers. Dina wishes to prepare artificial jewellery on a large scale by employing differently abled persons, thus empowering them to stand on their feet.
