
Well-known theatre artiste, Gamaka poet and writer Bendaravadi Subrahmanya Sharma passed away in Mangaluru on Saturday. He was 84.
He was popularly known as Subbajja among schoolchildren.
He has given over 16,000 programmes in schools, and colleges, thereby igniting love for Kannada literature among the kids.
For the last 50 years, he has been popularising the poems of Kailasam, Kuvempu, Bendre and other poets in schools and colleges.
He has written several books, including ‘Shaale Devara Mandira’, ‘Vishwa Bharathi’, ‘Sakkare Gombe’, ‘Appakajjaya’, ‘Puttana Hadu’, ‘Srigandha’, ‘Guruvandane’ and ‘Thayi Devaru’.
The radio plays written by him are ‘Akkana Magalu’, ‘Sagara Sangama’, ‘Chatpat Lady’ and ‘Nammoora Ajja Athava Ghati Muduka’.
He has donated over 13,000 books to schools and colleges.
He had received Deraje and Alike Balakrishna Shetty Memorial Literary Awards.
