Bhagawan's case: Legal opinion sought

The police have sought legal opinion regarding action to be taken in connection with a complaint lodged against writer KS Bhagawan.

Based on the complaint by Jagadish Hebbal of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, the Kuvempu Nagar police have booked the writer under IPC Section 295(A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

According to the police, the investigating officer has sought the advise of legal experts to proceed in the case.

They are expecting the directions from the higher authorities to arrest the writer. The police have decided to act based on the experts’ opinion.

The section has provisions for the arrest of the accused.
