Bring out clear guidelines for re-evaluation: UGC

Last Updated 23 July 2018, 16:35 IST

The university grants commission (UGC) has asked vice chancellors of the universities to immediately come up with clear guidelines for re-evaluation of the answer sheets of their students.

The higher education regulator's directive comes following a Central Information Commission's (CIC) recent order in this connection.

Hearing on a petition, the CIC in March advised the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry to instruct the vice chancellors and registrars of all universities “to suo-motu bring out” the guidelines for re-evaluation of the answer sheets.

The guidelines should provide in detail, the procedures prescribed thereunder for the benefit of the larger students community impacted by such decisions and in larger public interest involved in the matter, the CIC said in its order.

“Accordingly, you are requested to initiate appropriate necessary action in your university and also give suitable direction to all the colleges affiliated to your university and ensure compliance to the CIC order,” UGC secretary Rajnish Jain said in an official communication to the vice chancellors and registrars.
