BSNL contract workers stage protest for salary

Last Updated 22 October 2018, 19:49 IST

A protest was staged by the members of the BSNL Contract Workers’ Association on Monday, demanding payment of salary pending for three months.

The protest was held in front of the BSNL office in town.

The workers urged a release of the dues soon and condemned the move to stop duties for the contract workers.

“More than 250 such workers have been employed for the last 10 years. Although the attention of the officials was drawn towards the problems of the contract workers, there has been no move to solve them so far,” said the workers.

“Bonuses, PF, ESI, identity cards and job security should be provided to contract workers. The BSNL officials have failed to safeguard the rights of the employees,” the workers complained.

Association joint secretary Ramesh, association taluk unit secretary Ravi, and members T K Kavita and Antony were among those who took part in the protest.
