FIIs pull out $3 b from capital mkts in July

Financial institutional investors (FIIs) pulled out more than Rs 17,000 crore (about $3 billion) from the Indian capital markets so far this month, amid concerns over the depreciating rupee.

The outflows as of July 19 were about Rs 11,196 crore ($1.87 billion) from the debt market and Rs 6,005 crore ($1 billion) from equities, according to market regulator Sebi.

FIIs withdrew Rs 44,162 crore ($7.5 billion) from debt and equity markets in June. So far this year, FIIs have pulled out net Rs 20,284 crore ($3 billion) from debt market, while investment in equities is  net Rs 66,173 crore ($12.5 billion).

As of July 19, the number of registered FIIs in the country stood at 1,754.
