“While we continue to review the interim orders from the Government of India, we have notified the affected developers and have temporarily blocked access to the apps that remained available on the Play Store in India,” a Google spokesperson said.

Though Apple also took a similar approach as Google in complying with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology order, the US based firm did not respond to a request for comment.

However, sources said, soon after the IT Ministry announcing its decision to ban Chinese apps, most of the apps developers had taken down their apps from Google Play Store and Apple's Appe Store voluntarily.

The Centre on Monday banned 59 apps with Chinese links, including TikTok, UC Browser, SHAREit and WeChat, saying they were prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and security of the nation. The IT Ministry also sent notices to telecom service provuders, internet service provders and to both Apple and Google to comply with its order within 24 hours.
