The GST Council on Saturday decided to do away with check posts across the country for smooth transportation of goods.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also appealed to traders to pass on the benefits of reduced prices under the GST regime to the consumers or else the government will be forced to take action.

“I want to appeal through you to all the traders to pass on the benefits to consumers. Hope we are not pushed to a situation where we have to constitute an anti-profiteering authority at the first instance,” Jaitley said at a press conference after the 20th GST Council meeting here.

The meeting decided to implement the e-way bill system for goods consignment above Rs 50,000 in value with a minimum human interface.

“It will be mostly technology driven, there will be no check posts,” Jaitley said, adding a notification to this effect will be issued soon.
