Stock markets see new 52-week highs

Continuing the momentum from last week, Indian markets surged ahead to hit new 52-week highs. While Sensex ended up 104.22 points at 28,182.57, the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 28.20 points to close at 8,711.35.

“Continued strong liquidity support, bullish global backdrop post the strong US jobs data and spill-over of positive sentiments post the passage of GST bill are together keeping the markets buoyant. Recent correction in crude oil prices have also helped at the margin,” Motilal Oswal Securities Head of Research — Institutional Equities Gautam Duggad said.

Hindalco led the list of gainers on Nifty 50, ending up 3.65% at Rs 148.95. Other major gainers included BPCL (up 3.06% to Rs 604.50), Adani Ports (up 2.78% to Rs 240.50), Tata Power (up 2.46% to Rs 72.85), Bosch (up 1.81% to Rs 25,488) and Tech Mahindra (up 1.7% to Rs 503.45).

Two listed companies from the Bharti Group were among the top losers on the Nifty 50.

Bharti Airtel was the top loser, ending down 3.63% at Rs 350.8. Other major losers included Idea, Bharti Infratel, NTPC, ITC and Sun Pharma. A total of 95 securities ended on 52-week highs, while 14 securities ended on 52-week lows.
