Union Budget 2025 reaction| A step in the right direction, says farmers' leader Kishor Tiwari

The farmers' community welcomed proposals including input cost regulations and introduction of cotton mission.

Mumbai: Veteran farmers’ leader Kishor Tiwari, who is the voice of the farming community in the agrarian-distressed Vidarbha region, has welcomed the Union Budget presented by Nirmala Sitharaman describing it in the right direction for addressing multiple points including input cost regulations, introduction of cotton mission to enhance the productivity and promote pluses and putting oilseeds in mission mode. 

Tiwari, who is the founder of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti, said the 'Dhan Dhyan Krishi Yojana will help over 1 crore farmers in the country  and 'PM Dhan Dhyan Krishi Yojana' will cover 100 districts with low yields.

Tiwari welcomed the decision of the government to launch rural prosperity, resilience programme focusing on youth, women and farmers and to launch a 6-year program for Atamnirbharta in pulses with special focus on tur, urad, and masoor.

He also welcomed the decision of the government to enhance the limit for interest subvention scheme for Kisan Credit Card from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, this will restore credit cycle . its need of hour to adopt crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices and to augment post-harvest storage at panchayat and block level and  improve irrigation facilities.
