CG Commander West reviews operational preparedness

Inspector General VD Chafekar, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West) paid his maiden visit to Headquarters, No 3 Coast Guard District Karnataka at New Mangalore to review the operational readiness of the fleet and the ongoing infrastructure development projects on Friday.

The Commander also reviewed coastal security mechanism and pollution response preparedness of the coastal state of Karnataka.

The flag officer manifested his priorities for strengthening the Coast Guard Pollution Response capabilities through coordination with other stakeholders.

The prompt response by ICG ships and aircraft to numerous search and rescue operations and medical evacuations at sea, including assistance to fishermen in distress and shipment of relief material to the flood-hit Kerala by No 3 Coast Guard district Karnataka was lauded by the flag officer.

The flag officer interacted with officers and men and expressed his satisfaction with the preparedness at Headquarters, No 3 Coast Guard District Karnataka and reiterated the need of infrastructure for berthing of ships which are likely to be based at New Mangalore in near future.

Deputy Inspector-General SS Dasila, Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka was present.
