Chegu villagers to boycott election

Last Updated 11 April 2019, 11:54 IST

Alleging that the authorities have failed to provide basic amenities to Chegu village in Banakal hobli of Mudigere taluk, the villagers have warned of boycotting the Lok Sabha elections.

A banner on boycotting the elections have been mounted at the community hall in the village.

Speaking to DH, residents said, “The village comes under Banakal Gram Panchayat. The road to the village has not been asphalted for the last two decades. The road is filled with potholes, inconveniencing the vehicle users. There are no buses connecting the village. We have to depend on private vehicles to reach the main road. With the pothole-filled road, even private vehicles refuse to ferry passengers to the village.”

As a result, the villagers find it difficult to reach Banakal, Mudigere and Chikkamagaluru.

The potholes on the road also inconvenience the villagers from transporting farm produce to the market. The road provides connectivity to Gowdalli, Bhairapura and Devaramane villages as well.

Furthermore, residents said, “The village suffers from an acute water crisis. It also does not have UGD facilities. We have decided to boycott the elections till basic amenities are provided to the village.”
