JOIN US35-ft ‘Corona Shiva’ installed in Bengaluru to ward off second Covid-19 wave
Eight artists have joined forces with a welfare group to create a 35-ft ‘Corona Shiva’ to celebrate Shivarathri with a prayer: ‘May there be no second wave’.
The organisation, Vimochana Welfare Trust, has planned a week-long event at the Red Field Ground in Wilson Garden where devotees will offer prayers to the giant fibre-and-steel Shiva, made at a cost of Rs 25 lakh.
Harish D V, a member of the trust, said the statue was built to radiate positive energy to stop the second wave of coronavirus, in whose shadows this year’s Mahashivratri will be celebrated.
Vaastu elements
“The statue has been built based on designs suggested by Vaastu experts and has looks different from other statues of Lord Shiva. The Vaastu elements are aimed at destroying the virus through the positive energy it emits,” he said.
Harish stated that the statue is open to public viewing from March 8 to 14. Devotees and organisers will follow the Covid norms during the event, while officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will monitor violations and violators.
The organisers have lined up a series of cultural and spiritual events, where artists will perform music and dance. The night-long Shivaratri event is expected to lure more crowd. Several spiritual leaders and celebrities are expected to take part in the all-night event.
Srinivas, one of the artists who worked on the statue, said it took close to two months to complete.
The statue is also meant as a tribute to those who died in the pandemic and hope that the outbreak will stop across the world.
