'Duniya' Vijay seeks bail, counters 'serious' charges

Kannada actor ‘Duniya’ Vijay, jailed along with his associates for assaulting his former fitness trainer Maruthi Gowda, moved a court for bail on Monday.

The controversial actor’s counsel filed the bail application before the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, arguing that police pressed serious charges though the case is bailable.

The prosecution countered the claim, pointing out that criminal cases had been registered against the actor and that giving him bail would hamper the investigation. After hearing both the sides, the court adjourned the hearing until Wednesday.

Vijay, his chauffeur and two bodybuilder friends are accused of brutally assaulting and abducting Gowda from central Bengaluru’s Vasanthnagar on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the suspects spent their first night in the Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on Sunday.

They are likely to spend some more time before the court decides the bail application. Vijay’s wife Keerthi Gowda visited him in jail
on Monday, a police source said.

Meanwhile, police said they were hunting for the actor’s another associate who was also involved in the assault on Gowda.
