White-topping of roads to resume as traffic cops agree

Last Updated 30 July 2018, 19:32 IST

City roads will once again witness white-topping of roads with the traffic police agreeing for the BBMP projects, that they had rejected previously.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) had requested for the permission to white-top new roads in the city.

The decision was taken after a coordination meeting held recently between the traffic police and the BBMP officials, headed by the Chief Secretary. According to the BBMP officials, after the public criticism of the incomplete white-topping work, the BBMP officials had requested the traffic police to grant permission to start the work.

As many as 27 roads, including the 97 km of the Outer Ring Road, have been chosen for the white-topping. So far, only 9.5 km work has been completed, including one side of the Mysuru Road, the Chord Road near Vijayanagar, Goraguntepalya to Jalahalli on Tumakuru Road, Nagawara Outer Ring Road, Hosur Road, Koramangala and parts of Basavanagudi.

"We had planned to take up the work on the pending stretches and the ongoing stretches. In the past, the traffic police did not grant the permission for new stretches and directed us to complete the ongoing work, but after the coordination meeting headed by the chief secretary recently, the police department was directed to give permission," said a senior BBMP official said.

The BBMP will start the pending work immediately on the four stretches in Hebbal to Hennur, Nayandahalli Junction to Sumanahalli, Rajkumar Samadhi to Sumanahalli and West of Chord road.

"We are going to take up the work immediately on these four stretches before taking up the work on other roads. We have directed the contractors to start it," he added.
