A BMTC bus driver and conductor were assaulted by three bike-borne men after the driver questioned the men for intercepting the bus.

The assault took place in broad daylight on the busy Old Airport Road on Tuesday. After the attack, the trio fled the scene leaving their bike.

BMTC driver Shabbir Khan (45) was on the service between Shantinagar and Old Airport Road.

According to Khan, the three accused on a motorcycle, intercepted the bus at Rajeshwari bus stop in order to help their friend board. As the bus was blocked in the middle of the road, an irked Khan questioned the trio.

However, instead of getting onto the bus, the trio began to chat and did not allow the bus to move. After waiting for a couple of seconds, Khan began honking to force the trio to make way.

Enraged by this, the trio hurled abuses at the driver and thrashed him. The conductor, who rushed to the driver’s help, was beaten up by the accused.

Hearing the commotion, a few passengers alighted the bus and tried to nab the trio, but they escaped leaving the bike behind.

Based on the driver’s complaint, the Jeevanbhimanagar police booked the trio.
