In a span of one week, burglars struck for the second time in HSR Layout. This time, they decamped with valuables worth more than Rs 25 lakh from the house of the retired IAS officer and former chief secretary, Kaushik Mukherjee, on Saturday.

Mukherjee, who stays at HSR Layout 6 Sector, had visited his friend's house with his wife on Saturday around 11 am. Later, the couple had gone for shopping and returned home after watching a movie. The incident came to light when they reached home around 11 pm.

Last week, thieves broke into the former IGP-ranked officer M V Murthy's house in HSR Layout Sector 4 and made away with gold and other valuables.

A top-ranking police officer said the thieves have jumped into the back garden and entered the house, breaking the glass of the window and opening the backdoor. They used an iron rod to open the locker and looted the gold ornaments and cash.

The police further added that the thieves have made away with 20 high-end watches, 20 gold earrings, six gold bangles and three diamond earrings and rings worth Rs 25 lakh. The CCTV footage surrounding Mukherjee's house was retrieved and verified. Three people were seen walking suspiciously near the house between June 15 and 16. The police also suspect that the same team that had targeted Murthy’s house on June 11 may have struck Mukherjee's house as well.
