Caretaker of elderly couple steals Rs 20L valuables

Hiring a female caretaker for his ageing parents cost a businessman dear. The woman teamed up with a male colleague to steal Rs 20 lakh worth of valuables and cash from her employer's plush bungalow in central Bengaluru's Lavelle Road.

Geetha, of RT Nagar, was hired by Sandeep Maini to take care of his parents, Sudarshan Maini and Reva Maini. But she stole one valuable after another after secretly noting down the password of a digital locker used by the family. For this, she took the help of Manjunath alias Manju (35), also employed by the family.

Oblivious of the inside job, Sandeep got a CCTV camera installed but to no avail. He later found out about Geetha's involvement and called the police. Investigators later discovered that Geetha and Manjunath were leading a life of luxury with the booty. They had bought a washing machine, a fridge, a microwave oven and a geyser. Police recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs 8.72 lakh, silver valuables worth Rs 36,040 and Rs 8.85 lakh in cash from the suspects.
