CKP fumes at BBMP's penalty for littering

Last Updated 19 April 2019, 10:15 IST

Chitrakala Parishath (CKP) has come down heavily on BBMP for imposing a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on the Parishath for littering during the Chitra Santhe held on January 15.

In a stinging reply to the notice served on the Parishath, CKP chairperson Dr B L Shankar sought to know the parameters adopted for arriving at the penalty amount and also the money the Palike has collected from litterbugs in the city.

“Why did the BBMP go to the press? Was that for publicity?” Shankar sought to know in his letter to Mayor G Padmavathi.

Shankar said the CKP had taken permission from all government agencies to organise the annual event.

Event was postponed

He said the event would usually be held in the first week of January, but this year, due to the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, it was postponed to January 15.

“The artists and students of CKP had stacked the waste generated during the event in one place. The garbage contractor was supposed to collect the waste, but he delayed. The Palike too did not show any interest in collecting the garbage after the event,” Shankar said.
