A-40-year-old doctor sustained bullet injuries after getting caught between unidentified assailants firing indiscriminately at a realtor on Venkateshpuram Main Road in KG Halli on Monday night.

The injured — Dr Basheer Ahmed (38), a resident of Venkateshpuram, and realtor Saleem (37) — were rushed to Dr Ambedkar Hospital.

Saleem, a resident of Jayamata Layout, closed his office around 11.30 pm on Monday and was having a chat with a friend when four assailants came in two bikes and fired indiscriminately at him. A bullet hit his abdomen, while another hit Dr Basheer, who was coming out of his clinic — Medilane Health Care.

Saleem’s father Fairoz said he had incurred losses in business after demonetisation, following which he joined Aala Ventures as advisor. The firm, started by one Nadeem in 2017, was an investment company offering 10% returns.

Saleem made 150 people invest in the firm, but Nadeem fled with the money. When investors started demanding their money back, Saleem resigned from his post to launch a fight against the company. He even filed a complaint against the firm before the Central Crime Branch police.

Police said they are investigating from all angles, including allegations against Nadeem. Saleem was a history-sheeter earlier. The police are also probing whether the attack on him stemmed from an old rivalry.
