Two students in drunken condition jumped from the second floor of their college campus in Jalahalli on Monday afternoon. The duo, which were rushed to MS Ramaiah hospital, are said to be out of danger.

A senior police official said Saleem (19) and Rakesh (20) (both names changed) were students of BCom at St. Claret College.

The students came drunk to college on Monday. Their fellow students noticed the smell and reported them to the class teacher, who in turn reported the incident to college principal Father Benny.

The principal called parents of both the students, who arrived at the college around 1.30 pm. Father Benny told them that their sons came drunk to college, asking them to advise their children to maintain discipline and not to repeat the mistake again.

Police said the students walked out of the principal’s room and began quarrelling with their parents. Saleem rushed to the second floor and fell to the ground at 2.15 pm, while Rakesh, who saw him jump, also picked up a fight with his parents and tried to throw himself from the building.

Despite his mother stopping him, Rakesh pushed her aside and jumped from the corridor. Students and college staff rushed the duo to MS Ramaiah hospital in private vehicles, where doctors declared them out of danger.

Parents of the duo, who reside in BK Nagar in Yeshwanthpur, are daily wage workers. Police said the students drank in a bar on Monday morning and returned to class in an inebriated condition.

College authorities told police that the two students are regular to their classes and are considered estimable by classmates. However, Jalahalli police are yet to take their statement.
