Last Updated 03 July 2018, 20:28 IST

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday morning was trolled over the pothole-ridden roads in Bengaluru following his tweets urging motorists to wear helmets.

Moments after tweeting, hundreds of Twitter users drew his attention towards the poor condition of the city’s roads.

Sharing data on deaths caused due to not wearing helmets, Parameshwara tweeted: “Helmets are mandatory. Two-wheeler riders or pillion, your lives are equally important. As responsible citizens, I urge you all to please wear helmets. Safety first!.”

The data shared by him revealed that in 2017, of the 73 people killed in accidents in the city, 66 died because they were not wearing helmets. Similarly, in 2018 (to date), there have been 44 deaths due to accidents, of which 40 lost their lives as they were not using helmets.

In response, even though netizens agreed to comply with Parameshwara’s request, many complained about the pathetic condition of the roads across Bengaluru. Some even commented about the poor road infrastructure in other parts of the state as well. A few of them even tagged locations to draw his attention.

A tweet read: “The potholes are so dangerous that ..before the helmets protect... our heads break ....plz get the roads fixed..!” Girish Kumar, another Twitter user, said: “Please advise BBMP to fix the potholes. So many people lost their life last year even though they were wearing helmets because of potholes.”
