Festive garbage leaves KR Market in a mess

Last Updated 19 October 2018, 19:09 IST

A day after Ayudha Pooja festival, mounds of garbage have been dumped at KR Market in Kalasipalya, troubling daily commuters on Friday.

Remains of plantain shoots and mango leaves, unsold flowers and other materials largely used only during festivity could be seen strewn all around the market area.

Even though the locality did not receive its usual footfall due to long Dasara holidays, the area witnessed several stray dogs and livestock rummaging through the pile of garbage.

An office-bearer of the KR Market Traders' Association said the uncleared garbage had also affected their daily business which is already at its ebb due to poor turnout of people.

Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun had recently inspected the market area and instructed the traders not to dump garbage around.

Subsequently, even the Deputy Chief Minister and Bangalore Development Minister G Parameshwara had visited the place and had even suspended a senior BBMP official for not maintaining the cleanliness.

DH tried in vain to reach out to Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and Nazima Khanam, the corporator from the KR Market ward for comments.
