Flat owners protest against builder for delay

Having booked their flats a few years ago with a reputed builder in Sarjapur road, the buyers are still awaiting the possession of their dream flats. More than 75 buyers who are yet to get the possession of their flats conducted a silent protest last week. It has been the third protest for the past three months, said the buyers. They said that the builders are neither handing over the flats or paying the compensation as per the agreement.

The owners have individually submitted their complaints online individually with RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority).

Sunil Kumar Gupta, one of the buyers said, “I entered an agreement with SJR Prime Corporation Pvt. Ltd on October 3, 2016. As per the agreement, I was supposed to be handed over my apartment including all the amenities in December 2017. But I haven’t received it yet. We have approached the builder several times, seeking an update on the status of the apartments but they haven’t given us the exact date of completion. The builder is refusing to pay the compensation.”

He added, “I have suffered monetary losses in many ways including mental agony and hardship. For the dimension of my apartment, the market rate is Rs 35,000 pm. I am suffering a loss of this sum every month. Due to non-occupancy of the apartment, I am also unable to avail income tax benefits.”

Another buyer Dhaval Dhodia said, “I have been paying an EMI of Rs 65,000 per month for four years, I was supposed to get my flat by June 2016 but haven’t got it. I have been demanding the compensation from the builder. I am yet to receive any reply from the builder.”

The Customer Relationship Manager (CRM), Kavitha connected DH to a person associated with SJR Prime Corporation Pvt. Ltd who said, “The buyers are demanding hefty compensation from us which is unfair on their part. We will take care of this issue and resolve it soon. We will assure their flats soon.”
