Last Updated 11 September 2018, 20:46 IST

Four police personnel attached to the Madiwala police station had a narrow escape after an LPG cylinder exploded while they were trying to douse a fire at a roadside tea stall on Monday.

The injured were PSI Halegowda, head constable Shivashankar and constables Kumar and Sanjeev, along with home guard Sharanappa. The five sustained minor injuries and were admitted to St John’s Hospital. All are said to be out of danger.

The incident happened around midnight when the policemen received a message from the control room about a fire at a roadside tea shop close to the police station. They rushed out and saw the shop on fire. The cops, along with other staff, began to douse the fire using water, but the fire soon engulfed the shop which triggered an explosion from an LPG cylinder inside the shop.

The impact of the explosion was such that the cops were thrown to a distance. Later, fire tenders doused the fire.

The police have registered a case against the shop owner under section 285, 286 (negligence with explosive substances) and section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
