J Ilavarasi, convicted in a disproportionate assets case, left Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on Thursday, where she is serving her jail term, after receiving an emergency parole for 15 days to visit her ailing brother.

The sister-in-law of VK Sasikala, the ousted AIADMK general secretary, left with her advocate to Chennai around 2 pm. She was granted parole on a medical emergency on the condition that she will not interact with the media and stay within the permitted location.

A senior prison official said that Ilavarasi had applied for the parole on Tuesday after her brother underwent a heart surgery. Variations were observed in his health condition when the hospital gave him anaesthesia at a hospital in Chennai. She has been allowed to visit her brother and return to prison by November 8. This is her first parole application as her brother is in a serious condition, the officer said.

Sasikala was also granted a five days medical emergency parole last October to visit her ailing husband Natarajan and again to attend his funeral.
