The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on Monday refused to interfere in the assault case involving Kannada actor ‘Duniya’ Vijay and celebrity gym trainer Maruthi Gowda.

A special meeting under KFCC president and film producer S A Chinne Gowda decided to consider the matter “seriously” but not take any action against the actor.

Celebrity gym trainer Krishnamurthy aka ‘Panipuri’ Kitty, who is the uncle of Maruti Gowda, had approached the film body and demanded stringent action against the actor. A source told DH that some members were pushing for banning Vijay from the KFCC for a few years since he’s getting into too many controversies. “Being a public figure, he should be a role model. Fans and many others will take inspiration from him,” the source added.

Gowda, however, clarified that the KFCC had no role to play in the issue, though members would have a word with the actor. “The matter is in court and the police investigation is still ongoing. The incident was neither about cinema nor between actors, though it’s true that Kitty is also known to people in the film industry. Being a responsible body, it will be our duty to guide Vijay to the right path,” Gowda told this newspaper.
