KSR (Bengaluru City) 10th cleanest rail station in India

Last Updated 28 May 2018, 02:09 IST

Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) is one of the top 10 cleanest railway stations in India.

The stations were chosen based on a process evaluation survey, direct observations as well as citizen feedback. Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad and Jammu Tawi secured the first three positions, respectively.

While the KSR railway station was ranked 10th under the A1 category (stations with over Rs 60 crore in annual earnings), no station from Karnataka found space on the list of 'A' category (earnings between Rs 8 crore and Rs 60 crore).

The South Western Railway (SWR) was ranked the sixth cleanest among the 16 railway zones in the country. The South East Central Railway and the East Coast Railway occupied the top two positions.

The survey was carried out to assess the 'Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' taken up to complement the prime minister's 'Clean India' programme. It evaluated the process of cleanliness in parking, main entry area, platform and the waiting room.

Direct observation of cleanliness and passenger feedback were given equal importance while ranking the stations and railway zones. A report containing the assessment of 407 major stations has been submitted to the railways for scrutiny and survey action.

A final report containing actionable factors for each division will be submitted soon so that the railways can take action for improving the stations, the SWR said in a press statement.
