Parents’ responsibility doesn’t end with educating their children. It is also their duty to make their wards socially responsible, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said on Sunday.

He was speaking after inaugurating Ekya School, a Cambridge IGCSE institution located along Doddagubbi Main Road in Byrathi, East Bengaluru. Parameshwara said the presence of numerous good schools and colleges had made Bengaluru the hub of education in India, and credited the country’s rising literacy rate (78%) to these institutions.

The Congress leader invoked the Gurukul concept of learning which, according to him, not only provides knowledge but also teaches how to lead a peaceful life and follow discipline.

The Ekya School campus, located off Hennur Road, offers Montessori and kindergarten programmes besides classes 1-8.

According to a press release, the school has well-ventilated and naturally lit classrooms with panoramic windows.

Additional features include a 2,500-square foot library, a half-Olympic-size secluded swimming pool and a mini-pool with changing rooms in the basement, a 400-seater multipurpose auditorium, a 125-seater amphitheatre and two 60-seater audio-visual (AV) rooms.
