The Amruthahalli police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old daily wage labourer for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl by taking her to an isolated spot on the pretext of buying her snacks.

Naveen V is a native of Hassan and resides in Srirampura at an under-construction site. The victim was his neighbour and a student of a nearby school.

The police said Naveen had been speaking to the girl regularly. On Friday, he found her playing alone in front of her house and took her on his bicycle to buy a packet of Kurkure chips. He rode away with her to an isolated spot and raped her. Naveen also threatened to kill the girl if she reported the incident to anyone. He then dropped her back at home. The girl narrated the incident to her parents, who filed a complaint with the Amruthahalli police.

The police picked up Naveen from his relative's house and charged him under the POCSO Act. Medical tests on the girl and Naveen confirmed he had raped her.

Second incident in two months

This is the second incident of the sexual assault of a minor in the Amruthahalli police station limits in two months. On June 4, a three-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted and abandoned. The police are yet to make an arrest in that case.
