Man killed by wife, sons; fake it as suicide

A woman and her two sons smothered her husband to death at their house in Chandra Layout.

They attempted to project the death as a suicide. The incident came to light as they were in a hurry to get the death certificate from a doctor.

According to the police, the deceased, Palanivelu, 44, was a cab driver. The suspects are Kavitha, 37, her elder son, Rajavelu, an engineering student and a 17-year-old juvenile.

The police said the family resided in Arundathi Nagar in Chandra Layout. Palanivelu, who was an alcoholic, often assaulted and harassed his wife and sons. Upset over his regular harassment, Kavitha along with her sons smothered him to death while he was asleep on Saturday night, said the police.

Due to suspicious behaviour of the family, the police interrogated Kavitha who confessed to the crime. The police produced them before a magistrate who remanded them in judicial custody.
