Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister G Parameshwara assured that the multi-level parking facility at Freedom Park will be open to public by the last week of March, 2019.

Parameshwara inspected the ongoing work, along with Mayor R Sampath Raj and other Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, on Thursday.

The project, aimed at providing parking space for 500 four-wheelers and 500 two-wheelers in the CBD, had been in limbo since 2016, as the surface bottom is a rock, forcing workers to drill it out, causing inordinate delay in executing the work.

“This project will be completed by the last week of March 2019 and the work will gain momentum now,” said Parameshwara.

He has also asked K T Nagaraj, chief engineer of the project, BBMP, to give the same in writing to the BBMP commissioner.

Asked about the delay in work, K T Nagaraj said, “We are using diamond-cutting technology to drill the rock. This technology does not involve use of explosives as it might create vibration and eventually cause trouble to people.”

Nagaraj also estimated that the complete process of removing the rock will take two-three months and the remaining work will be completed within the stipulated period. He said that the drilled rock will be given to the Mines and Geological Department.

Interestingly, the partially complete project was inaugurated in March this year, by former chief minister Siddaramaiah.
